YSG Converts a Historic Sydney Warehouse Into a Mojave-Inspired Co-Working Space
Australian interiors studio YSG has converted a historic warehouse in Sydney’s Redfern into a modern co-working space. The 387-square-metre corner property was built in the early 1900s and until recently housed an art gallery. The design evokes the Mojave desert.

The Moonza view
Co-working spaces are growing in big cities, and they compete above all on atmosphere. Drawing on a natural landscape, here a desert, produces a warm, consistent palette of earthy colours, timber and natural textures.
Co-working design needs three kinds of space: shared desks for daily work, small meeting or phone rooms, and a lounge with comfortable sofas for rest and conversation. Ergonomic chairs in the work area are key to member satisfaction; anyone who sits for hours soon feels a chair’s quality.
- Combine shared desks, phone rooms and a lounge in a co-working space
- Ergonomic chairs in the work zone raise member satisfaction
- An earthy, warm palette makes large industrial spaces inviting
