Skywalker Grill: A Restaurant Without Right Angles at the Lucas Museum

Rockwell Group’s Los Angeles office has outfitted a restaurant and bar at the newly opened Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The design avoids 90-degree angles to respond to the museum’s distinctive biomorphic architecture.

The Moonza view

Curved lines in interiors feel soft and calm, making spaces less formal and rigid. Removing right angles altogether is an extreme choice here, but the same idea works at a smaller scale anywhere.

Round and oval tables in meeting rooms make conversation more equal because there is no head of the table. Curved sofas in lobbies guide circulation more gently, and chairs with rounded backs create intimacy in cafés and restaurants. Mixing a few curved pieces with linear furniture keeps the balance.

  • Consider round or oval tables for collaborative meetings
  • A curved sofa makes a lobby warmer and more welcoming
  • Mix curves with straight lines to keep a space balanced
