YSG Draws on Art Deco to Revamp a 1929 Sydney Apartment
Chamfered surfaces, warm hues and reinstated Art Deco features define The Gentleman, a 95-square-metre, high-ceilinged Sydney apartment in a 1929 building, completely renovated by local interiors studio YSG.

The Moonza view
Art Deco is known for geometric forms, chamfered edges, brass and warm, deep colours, and it has become popular again in recent years. It conveys grandeur and luxury without the clutter of heavy classical styles.
For executive offices, hotel lobbies or upscale restaurants, a few Art Deco elements are enough: a desk with chamfered edges and geometric legs, a sofa or chair in warm-toned velvet, and matt brass details. High ceilings are an opportunity for a large pendant that completes the style.
- For an Art Deco feel, combine geometric forms and brass details
- Warm velvet on sofas or chairs adds luxury without clutter
- Under high ceilings, hang a large statement pendant
