Old Chairs Get a Resin Shell Without Hiding Their Scars
Darkened wood, uneven colour and exposed fasteners are hardly the usual ingredients of a furniture makeover. In Younghyun Lee’s project The Youth, these marks of age are the reason for the work, as old chairs receive a resin shell without hiding their scars.

The Moonza view
This project reverses the usual view of renovation: instead of erasing the past, it keeps and shows it. The idea appeals to an office that wants story and identity, with furniture whose age is part of its character rather than a flaw.
There is a practical lesson for companies too. Before discarding old furniture, check which pieces still have a sound frame. A well-made old chair in a waiting area or small meeting room can have more character than a new one.
- Inspect the frames of old pieces before replacing furniture
- Place a piece with history beside simple, calm furniture so it stands out
- For heavily used chairs, confirm safety and strength first
