Melbourne’s Parkhill Residence Uses Arches and Tactile Materials for Parisian Calm
Crissy Zhang Design has transformed the interior of the 265-square-metre Parkhill residence in Melbourne, using arched forms and tactile materials to create a soft, calming space shaped by a modern Parisian sensibility.

The Moonza view
Arches, in doorways, alcoves or even sofa backs, are among the most popular elements in interiors today because they soften a space. Combined with tactile materials such as textured fabrics, matt plaster and light timber, they double the sense of calm.
The language suits reception areas, clinics, salons and offices seeking a calm, informal atmosphere. Sofas and chairs with rounded, arched backs bring the same feeling without changing the architecture.
- Sofas and chairs with arched backs soften a space without renovation
- Textured fabrics and light colours strengthen the calm
- Pair arched forms with simple lines to avoid clutter
