Masa Café in Medellín Uses 31 Timber Columns to Create a Forest-Like Interior
Studio Cadena has designed a forest-like interior for Masa café in Medellín, Colombia, where more than 30 plywood columns rise to a concrete ceiling to create an atmosphere without walls or enclosure.

The Moonza view
This project carries a practical idea: dividing space without building walls. Repeated vertical elements break a large hall into smaller, more intimate zones without blocking light or views, and timber brings warmth and a sense of nature into a concrete shell.
In open-plan offices, timber vertical partitions or open shelving can do the same: each team’s area becomes clear while visual connection remains. In cafés and office pantries, arranging tables among these elements creates privacy without fragmenting the space.
- Divide open areas with partitions or open shelving instead of walls
- Vertical timber elements warm up concrete interiors
- Place tables among them to create quiet corners
