Kimpton Ashbel Brings the Warmth of a Curated Townhouse to Park Avenue
Interior design practice Busta Studio has filled the Kimpton Ashbel hotel on New York’s Park Avenue with art and objects intended to make it feel like a warm, elegantly curated home. The hotel occupies a 1928 Beaux-Arts building.

The Moonza view
Hotels and hospitality spaces are moving further from the cold formality of the past, aiming to feel like the home of a host with taste. The feeling comes from details: books, artworks, table lamps and furniture that is coordinated rather than matching.
The approach works well in company lobbies and client reception rooms. Instead of a row of identical chairs, a comfortable sofa, two armchairs and a low table with a few books and a lamp create a space where guests relax and waiting feels easy.
- In waiting areas, replace rows of chairs with a sofa and armchairs
- A few books, artworks and a table lamp create a homely feel
- Furniture should coordinate, not necessarily match
