A Folding Chair That Hides Its Entire Mechanism Inside the Backrest
Industrial designer Gudmundur Ludvik set out to answer why a folding chair should be a compromise. His design hides the chair’s entire folding mechanism inside the backrest.

The Moonza view
Folding chairs are usually seen as temporary and not very beautiful, brought out of storage only for events. Hiding the mechanism turns one into furniture you can keep on show with pride.
For multi-purpose halls, training rooms, restaurants and even small homes, a chair that is attractive yet folds away frees up space. When buying, look beyond appearance to joint strength, seat comfort and how easily it stacks or folds; a weak folding chair soon becomes wobbly.
- For multi-purpose rooms, buy well-made folding or stacking chairs
- Check joint and mechanism strength before purchase
- Plan storage for folded chairs from the start
