Ocean Liners Inspire New York’s Kimpton Era Hotel by INC

Local architecture studio INC has designed each guest room at the Kimpton Era in New York to emulate “a stateroom on an ocean liner”. The 529-key hotel is housed in a purpose-built, 33-storey tower on West 48th Street, overlooking Rockefeller Plaza.

The Moonza view

One clear idea can unify the design of hundreds of spaces; here, it is the image of a ship’s stateroom. When such an idea is set from the start, choosing materials, colours and furniture becomes simpler and more coherent.

This applies especially to large projects such as a multi-floor office or a company’s branches. Rather than deciding each room separately, choose one design story and furnish accordingly. The stateroom is also a good model for small spaces, where everything has its exact place.

  • Choose one clear design idea for the whole project before buying
  • Keep furniture materials and colours consistent across branches
  • In small rooms, plan a fixed place for every item
