Bar Shrimp Uses Laser-Etched Acoustic Panels to Balance Music and Conversation
Manchester cocktail bar and restaurant Bar Shrimp combines red velvet interiors with bespoke acoustic panels from Autex Acoustics, designed to balance music and conversation. The venue also has a custom sound system.
The Moonza view
Sound is one of the most overlooked parts of interior design. A space with echo becomes tiring, however beautiful it looks, whether it is a restaurant or an open-plan office. This project shows acoustic panels can control sound and be part of the decor at the same time.
Offices with concrete ceilings, stone floors and glass walls often suffer from echo. The answer is not only wall panels: upholstered sofas and chairs, rugs and fabric partitions all absorb sound. Meeting rooms and open-plan areas need it most.
- Take fabric or acoustic partitions seriously in open-plan areas
- Upholstered furniture and rugs noticeably reduce echo
- Choose acoustic panels that match the colours or patterns of the decor
